I am Julen Landaluze Gorostiaga and I was born on November 26, 1988 in the town of Aretxabaleta, located in the deep valleys of the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country (Spain). Where I grew up, I was integrated into the mountain lifestyle from a very early age.
At the age of 20 I came to San Sebastian to study and I began to work as a surf instructor. During my time as an instructor I began to meet locals and people from all walks of life. I began to start to appreciate and enjoy the lifestyle here on the coast as well. It was the lifestyle of my dreams!
But at the same time as the years went by, I began to realize that I was losing the excitement I had for surfing, work and life in San Sebastian. I felt the need to make a change in my life. I had to spend most of the weeks of the year, in San Sebastian and on Zurriola beach, locked in the monotony of surfing.
Surfing and San Sebastian are incredible. The quality of life here is very high, but the fact of always having to do the same activities and having to give up the option of diversity in many different ways was weighing on my mind. I wanted to create a project to show people how diverse and amazing the Basque Country is, so they can enjoy everything from the mountains to the sea.
A great quote from an Australian friend that changed my perspective on life: “Variety is the spice of life, my friend.”
I asked myself: What If I only live once and I do not have time to learn about my country?
Consequently, I began to have the dream of wanting to offer a different type of tourism to people through a company I wanted to create:
I wanted to make both local people and foreigners happy, showing people the incredible unknown(and undiscovered) corners, stories, culture, gastronomy, different sports, and traditions from the Basque Country.

After much work, happily on August 15, 2015, AUPA HI! was born. Now that we are currently in 2017 it is amazing for me to see that AUPA HI! has started to work, but without you, it could not be possible.
That’s why the AUPA HI! Company is really nothing without you (my customers).
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who makes this sweet dream possible.
A big hug.
Be free and love.

*AUPA HI!: is a Basque saying that is always used to greet or give encouragement and strength to another person(the saying also needs to be said with a great attitude) .
AUPA = GET UP HI = YOU (in the pure Basque dialect)

I love the natural and local sphere. Because living like this, makes it is possible to dream about a sustainable future. I also love happiness. Because we only live once. My experiences are focused on the natural, local environment and creating a happy existence for everyone.
If you travel with me, you are going to have the possibility to live the real local life, enjoying the purest experiences and adventures. Because when I travel, I like to feel the real essence of the country where I am traveling. You will enjoy the local, real and pure part of the Basque Country
